VMAQ-2’s Rundle on Legacy of His Squadron, EA-6B Prowler and EW Mission

Lt. Col. Andrew “Grundy” Rundle, USMC, the last commanding officer of Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 2 — known as VMAQ-2 — that was deactivated on March 8, 2019, along with the Northrop Grumman EA-6B Prowler — discusses the 67-year legacy of his historic unit and its iconic jet, the expeditionary EW and airborne electronic attack missions and what’s next for his storied community with Defense & Aerospace Report Editor Vago Muradian at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. The four-seat EA-6B was introduced in 1975 and derived from the two-seat EA-6A Electric Intruder that was the electronic warfare version of the Navy’s A-6 Intruder attack jet. The Navy and Marines acquired 170 Prowlers, which the Navy retired in 2015, replacing it with the Boeing EF-18G derived from the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet strike fighter.
