US Navy’s Geurts on Making Acquisition Faster, Cheaper

Col. James “Hondo” Geurts, USAF Ret., assistant secretary of the US Navy for research, development and acquisition, discusses ways to make Navy acquisition faster — such as building “agility cycles” into longer programs, using open architectures, employing unorthodox thinkers, and constructing acquisition programs that bring ideas from the American public to fruition — and to encourage “a culture of affordability” for the service during a Jan. 11, 2018, press conference at the Surface Navy Association’s 2018 national symposium and trade show in northern Virginia. The Defense & Aerospace Report was an official SNA 2018 media partner, and our coverage was sponsored by Leonardo DRS.
