The four-seat EA-6B was introduced in 1975 and derived from the two-seat EA-6A Electric Intruder that was the electronic warfare version of the Navy’s A-6 Intruder attack jet. The Navy and Marines acquired 170 Prowlers, which the Navy retired in 2015, replacing it with the Boeing EF-18G derived from the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet strike fighter.
